Technology in the Classroom : Mobile Charging Stations | LocknCharge

Augmentation

– Online Doctor Check-ups(zoom/virtual meetings) Lets people meet with their doctors during the global pandemic.

for example over this summer I needed to have my yearly check up with my doctor but because of the Corona Virus the hospital was not letting anyone in, just people sick with the virus. so instead of going to the hospital I used a hospital private server zoom chat to meet with my doctor.”In recent years, technology has been the solution to many of the world’s problems, including the problems that it has helped to create.” https://medium.com/digital-society/how-much-does-technology-mess-with-your-physical-health-f1d27f685283

-Fitness Apps (physical health) Many apps are designed to encourage physical activity and working out.

For example Pokemon Go, this game rewards the player with in game points by tracking the  physical activity of the player in the real world. It is a proven fact that sitting in-front of a screen has negative physical effects but many apps work to help people become more active, some apps even help you make work out plans and log burned calories. “In this digital age maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be difficult, but a large increase in fitness and health related apps have made increasing physical activity and leading a healthy lifestyle easier than ever before” https://medium.com/digital-society/how-much-does-technology-mess-with-your-physical-health-f1d27f685283

– Advances in Education (zoom/online learning) Being able to attend classes even if you can’t physically go to class.

for example, being able to attend online zoom classes during a the global pandemic. being able to still continue my college education when we are all socially distancing is an unreal technological advancement, If this pandemic happened back in 2010 there is no way online schools servers would have been able to run with literally every student using them. “technology has transformed life in a myriad of ways, changing the ways we work, live and relax. It has benefited society in many ways such as advancing education, entertainment” https://medium.com/digital-society/how-much-does-technology-mess-with-your-physical-health-f1d27f685283

-Communication (texting/social media) Long distance communication anywhere in the world at our finger tips.

for example, when I was in high school my Dad would have to make business trips to Italy and Canada to make sure the blue print instructions he made where build correctly. While he was away he would use apps such as whatsapp and TextMe up to talk with me back home. ” These technological advances continue to possess vast potential and benefits” https://medium.com/digital-society/how-much-does-technology-mess-with-your-physical-health-f1d27f685283

Amputation

– Social Behavior (cyber bullying/behavior) People don’t act the same online as they do in person.

for example children in grade school who have ipads for in school learning could cyber bully another student anonymously and repetitively. another example is university zoom lectures, often I will hear story’s or personally witness students acting inappropriately on camera or within the class chat. both of these are because people behave differently when behind a screen. “masks make men cruel” HBO Watchmen. “It’s easier to say terrible things to someone when you may not be held accountable for your actions.” https://www.digitaldetox.com/blog/the-19-negative-effects-of-technology-in-2019

-Physical Health (neck/back/eyes) When spending multiple hours in-front of a screen your body is negatively affected.

For example, study’s say people who spend more than 2-3 hours in-front of a computer have worse posture and recurring pains that reaches from the neck to lower back. along with the spine they eyes take strain from looking at screens for long amounts of time. ” With this increase in digital technology the reporting of physical discomfort after staring at screens for long periods of time has increased.” “Many studies have found that prolonged use of mobile phones has had detrimental effects on people’s upper body, specifically the neck and back.” https://medium.com/digital-society/how-much-does-technology-mess-with-your-physical-health-f1d27f685283

-Mental Health (anxiety/depression/sleep). social media as been tied to affecting peoples mental health along with disrupting sleep schedules.

for example social media addictions are direct causes of depression, anxiety and suicide (mostly in teenagers). With everyone using social media platforms it increases social pressure to not only fit in in-person but also fit in online. Being on these apps late into the night disrupts our sleep scheduled because of blue light. “Authors of a 2014 study found that this blue light is enough to disturb the body’s natural circadian rhythm” https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/negative-effects-of-technology#physical-health-effects

“overusing these services can impact our well-being. Social media addiction is linked to a rise in mental health disorders like depression suicidal ideation, particularly in teenagers.”https://www.nwpc.com/how-does-technology-use-affect-mens-womens-health/

-Technology Addiction (Using the internet too much) the average American does 11 hours of screen time a day.

For example, we use our phones to wake us up than brows social media for a bit, than get ready for our online classes and after we use our technology to relax and binge a show or watch a movie than repeat the next day. this cycle leads to living a sedentary lifestyle causing diabetes, cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, and obesity. “Using tech devices is addictive, and it’s becoming more and more difficult to disengage with their technology.” https://www.businessinsider.com/technology-negative-bad-effects-society-2019-8#technology-is-addictive-4
